Bass Ache Podcast 008: EFA

February 4, 2011 Artifact 2 Comments

For the eighth installment of our monthly podcast series, we have drafted in EFA, head of the Pollen record label and a member of Bristol based collective Crazylegs, known for their rammed out, on point parties.

This mix is 100% exclusives, so there will be no track listing this time, but hey, a bit of mystery is always fun…

Firstly about the mix, was there any method to the madness or did you just let it flow?

I did an all Bristol mix for a blog which should be dropping at some point and enjoyed working to a theme, it meant I could pull the tracks 1st and be a bit more organised as I usually do all my mixes on the fly. For this one I decided to select some of the exclusives I’d been sent and mix them as quickly as possible hence the short running time considering the 14 tracks, there may or may not be some future Pollen releases on it!

Pollen’s second vinyl release with XXXY is out very soon, and you have Hodge’s excellent ‘Conjecture’ coming soon digitally, any big plans for 2011?

We’re going to be releasing a lot of new artists digitally over the course of the next few months, we will be applying the same quality control to the A&R, artwork and mastering and have some amazing music ready to go. The ethos for Pollen hasn’t really changed since we launched so we’ll still be pushing music that takes influence from and crosses over all genres.

Is the event set to return anytime soon? your last one with Slugabed and XXXY had quite a lot of buzz after it..

The event is taking a backseat to the label at the moment but I’m keeping an eye on who’s around and seeing what would work, there maybe something happening soon though so jump on the fan page at facebook.com/likepollen to keep updated.

Crazylegs have had an amazing 2010, what can we expect in 2011?

We’re doing some party’s at Blue Mountain starting on 19th March which will be announced soon. They’ve just had a massive new Function One soundsystem installed by Dirt who know what they’re doing with bass having worked for DMZ at the RBMA Culture Clash, I popped into the relaunch after Crazylegs last Saturday and it sounded amazing! Aside from that we’ll continue to throw a few curveballs out there, one of which may be happening sooner than you think! Jump on facebook.com/crazylegsclub to keep updated.
