Any plan for the mix or did you just kind of vibe?

No real plan for this really, except for the start where I wanted to play a few slower tempo tunes. After that i just went with the flow of things, so hopefully it sounds alright!

You’ve worked a lot with Submerse, do you find it easy working with him, and do you prefer the collabs or your solo material?

Well we have been friends for ages so I think its really easy for us to work together. Both collab and solo work hold their own strong points and I wouldn’t say I have a preference really. Working on collabs gives an insight into someone else’s approach and usually ideas get put into practice quicker as you’ve got more than just yourself to bounce off. On the other hand working Solo allows the cultivation of ideas a bit more I think because you have as much time as you feel you need really rather than needing to get something down within a certain time slot. But like I say I like them equally.

You’ve had a string of excellent releases, with and without Submerse, what else do you have coming up in the pipeline?

The next thing that’s due is an EP for Inhale Audio, who which also includes a string of wicked remixes. I have a split 12″ EP on Well Rounded due and also 12″ forthcoming on Formant. Hot n’ Heavy are going to be putting out a collab I did with Regent too. Also, there are a few remixes of mine due on Swing And Skip, Frijsfo. Myself Submerse and KingThing are also about to start our new label which we have lots of cool music lined up as well as our own material, so watch this space for that!

Production wise, what kind of set up are you running, and is there one piece of kit you couldn’t live without?

I’m an Ableton Live user with a pair of Tapco S8′s for monitors and a little E-MU X board 25 as the midi control. At current it’s purely software based, although funds provided, I’d love to get some Hardware into the equation. I’d probably say the Novation V-Station is essential kit for me, its definitely a work horse vst and I’ll use it pretty much every tune.

You and Submerse are among the few to be based in the northern area, along with the likes of Mele, Midland etc. Do you feel that having such a sparse scene made it harder to break out than say artists in the cities like London and Bristol?

I wouldn’t say so, I think if your sending the tunes to the right places it doesn’t matter on location. With many labels and artists online in the form of twitter and such, its easy enough to get your music to them regardless of your own local scene. Plus sites like soundcloud are valuable promotion tools.
