Following on from the ‘DPMO’ release last month on Slit Jockey Records, Starkey and Trim are back once again. This time for a free download of ‘Solar Flare’ a beat which Trim freestlyed over on the ‘DPMO’ recording sessions. Slit Jockey can be seen as the America’s answer to UK Grime, with releases from Starkey, 8Bitch and Mella Dee.

‘Solar Flare’ was originally released on the Fool’s Gold compilation ‘Clubhouse Vol. 2′ but now you can grab the beat with Trim’s added E14 flow for free. Trim goes in with all his classic lines on this UK grime banger.

Finally, it’s dropped!

There were some personal doubts that this was actually going happen on time, considering A$AP Rocky’s album has just been pushed back to October but this mixtape will definitely hold you over until then.

From just reading the tracklisting you can see that the features and production game is on point, and with names like AraabMuzik, Danny Brown and Raekwon on that list, it’d be rude not to check it out.

After first listen it doesn’t disappoint, perhaps being even better than expected, one you can see being in rotation for quite a while. At 18 tracks you may find that there are going to be some tracks you’ll end up skipping in the end, but for a free mixtape you can’t exactly complain.

Highly recommend checking this out, A$AP are showing that they’re not just going to fade away after the success they’ve had so far, big things are definitely going to be coming from this camp for a while!

So you’re probably thinking I’m late to game on this one, but then Children of the Night aren’t exactly that well known this side of the pond, and some would say outside of Queens.

Formed by Nasty Nigel, Remy Banks and Lansky Jones the trio have been tearing up venues in New York and have just recently supported Nas at the 100 Club in London. This mixtape is a collaboration with the NYC brand Mishka, they also recently were used in the brands latest look-book.

Comprising of 14 tracks with production coming from SKYWLKR, Left Brain & Black Noi$e among others the mixtape flows well and definitely leaves you wanting to check out their previous stuff! The mixtape has quite a few features, which is never a bad thing, a stand out track/feature for me is ’86 Mets, featuring T.shirt & Roc Marciano, as in my opinion Roc is one of the better and highly underrated emcee’s in the game!

And it’s the follow up to last years release Cabin Fever (talking mixtapes here, not albums), the new ‘tape from Wiz!

After a recent open letter to his fans apologising for his lack lustre performance on Rolling Papers, he must have a point to try and prove with this one, from the opening tracks it has a Kush & OJ kinda vibe to it, to me at least. A lot of people say that it’s that ‘tape that solidified his place in Hip-Hop so maybe he got serious on this one, who knows! Personally I think Rolling Papers was a good album, a progression for him, rather than a crap album ha!

Whoever said grime is dead needs to go and have a long hard think. 2012 in my eyes has already proved them very, very wrong. Someone who is fully sailing the flag at full mast is perennial grime vet Terror Danjah, who comes with some new fire for the Fabric crew.

No stranger to one of london’s finest afterhours establishments, often repping the likes of his own label Hardrive and innovators Butterz, this mix marks a seminal moment for him and the rest of his Hyperdub family.

On Friday 16th of this month Room 1 sees a long overdue takeover from the institution that is Hyperdub, celebrating the launch of Scratcha’s eagerly anticipated first album Pretty Ugly (which drops on the 19th) and they’re certainly not doing things by halves. Main man Kode9 has drafted an overly strong lineup to commemorate the occasion, consisting of himself, Scratcha, Terror Danjah as well as Ikonika, Funkystepz, Ill Blu, Morgan Zarate, Ossie and Walton.

But it doesn’t stop there, Benji B is hosting room 3 along with Mickey Pearce and Bass Ache favourite Moxie plus room 2 doesn’t look too bad either, representing everything thats good about drum & bass. Full line up and ticket info after the drop.

As you can expect from Terror Danjah the mix is a high energy affair, short and sweet, full of dubs and sneaky samples in addition to his own material. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

After “that” inncident in Napa and famously leaving Roll Deep, Trim has been at the forefront of the grime scene, shunning the mainstream commercial success that a lot of his peers strive for whilst constantly pushing the boundary’s of the sound.

Recent collaborations with the likes of the Butterz crew show that Trim keeps his finger on the pulse when it comes to grime.

Recently we’ve seen Trimbal on a far more experimental tip collaborating with man like Riva Starr on Dance Me and Mumdance on the Tarahtid EP along side Jammer, as well as a massive release with the insanely talented Mark Pritchard on Planet Mu entitled Sterotype. All of which showcases Trim’s lyrical ability and diversity as an MC far far beyond the confinements of Grime.

As a grime fan who doesnt use Twitter, it’s kind of hard to stay in the loop still. It took me a week to realise that this mixtape had dropped, which again highlights Trim’s blasé attitude towards the whole scene. “Trim’s doing Trim, he aint watching you”.

Bandoolou is a solid ‘tape, I’m glad to see two Harmonic 313 productions on there; as well as beats from grime top boys Rude Kid & Teddy. Spitting in his refined flow, giving two fingers to any haters – classic Trim. Although I’m kind of let down that he bit the bait and dropped a Motto freestyle even though he does make it his own, but I can’t forgive the autotune on Hate Me. Download link after the drop.

The ultra fresh imprint run by Scotland’s very own DFRNT, Cut, have just dropped the latest in their long line of high quality, free EP’s. This one comes from a new artist, London based Thefft. If you haven’t heard of him yet, don’t worry, you certainly will be hearing a lot from this point onwards.

Hotly tipped and supported by the likes of Loefah, Oneman and Damu. Thefft has managed to create a very of the moment sound, combining slow beats with strong bass and all kinds of other genre’s thrown in. The release is just that, and we wouldn’t even mind paying for it… saying that, if your feeling the release, please donate to Cut! They are an excellent label and are putting their own money on the line to push some truly brilliant music.

Thefft is causing a bit of a stir at the moment, and it seems, for good reason. His lower-tempo, rhythmic creations are stuffed with percussive snaps and clicks designed to move the dancefloor, while his production intricacies command a closer listen on headphones.

Arguably the best of both worlds, there’s enough weight and groove from Jack’s ‘The Primer EP’ to move you in a dark sweaty room, but there’s equally ample sound to hold your attention as you ride your daily commute. Thefft has already seen support for his work from Zed Bias, Loefah, Oneman, Distal, Damu and more. Trust me, you’re not going to want to miss this boy’s work.
