This Friday In:Motion plays host to probably one of their most impressive line-ups to date.

In:Motion, the annual electronic music season, kicked off last week with Bristol house music masters Just Jack. The whole season stands ever so strong however this Friday we see a bill that will be hard to beat as Hessle Audio take grasp of the reins.

The Hessle founders themselves, Ben UFO, Pangaea and Pearson Sound, have enough pulling power and weight to make affairs supreme in the main room but if that wasn’t enough they bring in Legowelt, Joe and the mighty Four Tet to take things up a notch or two. The second room far from disappoints either as Bristol’s Idle Hands play host enlisting the help of Floating Points and Alexander Nut.

Ben UFO discusses Jungle, FWD and Hessle in the first in a series of videos entitled ‘Versions’ shot by Rollo Jackson.

It’s a pleasure to watch this short but well informative interview in such a nicely shot video. Covering Ben’s early influence in Jungle to the formation of Hessle Audio, the interview fills in the gaps and gives a good overview of the works of Ben UFO.

Versions is an ongoing series of interviews with musicians and artists. This video only sparks excitement for what we can come to expect from this series.

One club that has always managed to survive at the top of the food chain is the world renowned Fabric, although this hardly comes as a shock when you consider the quality of the brand itself and the calibre of the nights they hold week after week. (Just check out the most recent listings for an example of what’s around the corner)
Of course this is before you even bring in to the equation the so far 129 strong release monthly mix compilation, which I’ll be bold in saying probably rivals most mix compilations released throughout the years. Even the once acclaimed Global Underground series now pales in comparison, so it’s easy to understand why the brand is still going strong 12 years after the doors first opened.

The next release in to the FABRICLIVE CD series is mixed by none other than the should be platinum selling, Four Tet, an electronic artist who I’m sure needs little to no introduction and so perhaps I’ll save the time and skip that all together, but if you’re not totally au fait check out a copy of 2003′s Rounds for an overdue introduction.

What I will do instead is spend a bit of time deconstructing the mix for your eyes, before you ears get a chance to experience it, because oh my god what a mix it is…

It rolls from the beautifully constructed intro constructed from the early doors sound of a typical night to any large club; the chatter in the queue, the first beats of the night as you walk from one room to another, getting lost and finding your way at the bar on the way in.
It then gently strolls into some low slung broken beats from Crazy Bald Heads‘ First Born, stepping up a notch in to heavier territory of deep bass infused garage for a few tunes and then falling back in to the Four Tet mix of first born, a nice touch and shows his obvious aptitude for clever set programming as the more garagesque tunes were a pleasant surprise.
We drift in to slightly deeper territory through the hypnotic grooving flow of Floating Points, C++, Villalobos, Burial et al via some more upbeat funky from Genius (sic) and Big Bird.
At the start of the mix you can’t help but nod your head to the beats and by the time it nears the end you can’t help but want to be lost on a dance floor at 6am dreading the inevitable last tune and first train home. A true sign of a well crafted mix, one that can not only do a great service to your home hi-fi, but leave you aching for a big night out.

This brings us to the topic of the highly anticipated launch party of the aforementioned CD release party at Fabric on the 23rd of this month. Which, following Fabric’s high standards features a line up of names in each room that couldn’t be sniffed at on their own, let alone in a single venue at the the same time.

Joining the obvious Four Tet in room one for the launch is Caribou, with a DJ set I’m definitely looking forward to since his mind blowing performance at Glastonbury as well as Trevor Jackson amongst others.
Though what stands out the most for me is the fact that none other than Hessle Audio are hosting the second room; with Pearson Sound, Ben UFO, Pangaea and some guy who I’ve known since back from the day of playing Thursday night Eclectric parties in Oxford together and am incredibly stoked to see gain so much hype, ‘fresh from Berlin’ Objekt!
If that wash’t enough Eglo Records pick up the bar tab in room three…

Yes, I know exactly what you’re thinking and I totally agree; woah. See you on the dancefloor then yeah?!

Bristol In:Motion is back after a successful first season of events in 2010, backed with heavy-hitting promoters, labels and DJs as well as our very own room on October 8th.

We’re really excited to be apart of this seasons In:Motion, we hope you can make a visit.

Our friends over at Sonic Router are hosting the 3rd room at Fabric Live on the 1st of July. The main room is being controlled by seminal bass label Hessle Audio featuring Pearson Sound, Joy-O, Jackmaster.. the list goes on.

Tectonic take things darker in the second room, with dubstep heavyweights Pinch and Distance headline with a back to back set, backed up by Swamp 81 boss Loefah, Shed with a live set, Youngsta, Jack Sparrow and Dubkasm.

Which brings us too the 3rd room, hosted by Sonic Router, and featuring one of Londons finest Mosca,  the excellent Braiden, Redinho with a live set, Randomer and MLR.

This is set to be a busy one so grab an advance ticket to ensure entry!

Hessle Audio took the warm up for Panorama Bar in Berlin this coming Saturday/Sunday to Rinse FM last night, on selection duties was Ben UFO, Pearson Sound and they was joined by special guests Joy Orbison and Floating Points. This one definitely deserves it’s own blog post, it’s 2 hours packed full of house jams.

The line up for Berghain/Panorama Bar is as follows..

Panorama Bar – Doldrums presents:

Cassy (Cocoon), Prosumer (Ostgut Ton)

Real youngsters are again the DJs in the Panorama Bar: Joy Orbison, Floating Point and Pearson Sound are all in their early to mid 20 and are among the most innovative newcomers in recent years. Interestingly, with an insistence on an old technology: they are vinyl junkies and their own parties is no other media player. Their music has been largely freed from their dubstep early days and can now be subsumed calm as a house. This all fits in the live act of Gunnar Wendel aka Kassem Mosse, who is suspended with its addictive Slo-Mo-House meditations on labels such as workshop, Nonplus, Laid and Doldrums, as well.

If you’re at a loose end and fancy the trip to Panorama Bar this weekend then I’d highly recommend it, what a blinding line-up that is.. I think I would be in Panorama Bar from the first record by the Doldrums/Hessle crew right through till the last record from Panorama resident Prosumer, it’s due to go from midnight Saturday right through till 8pm Sunday, maybe even later.

Numbers and SBTRKT share a weekly Tuesday night slot, whilst Loefah represents Swamp 81 on a Thursday night, shared with Dusk and Blackdown and my favourite bi-weekly show, Hessle Audio.
